FIFA: The most anticipated football game

The FIFA World Cup is an international football competition involving national teams. The FIFA-organized competition, which has been played every four years since 1930 in Uruguay. It has featured 32 teams since the 1998 edition. FIFA is the most awaited popular football match by the people, especially the youth.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup was the 22nd FIFA World Cup and an international football competition for the men’s national teams of FIFA’s member organisations. It was the second World Cup staged fully in Asia after the 2002 competition in South Korea and Japan, and it was held in Qatar from November 20, 2022, to December 18, 2022. It was the first World Cup to be held in Arab and Muslim countries. After defeating Croatia 4-2 in the championship match of 2018, France was the reigning champion.

The decision to hold the World Cup in Qatar was controversial because of the country’s treatment of migrant workers, women, and LGBT people as well as its climate, lack of vibrant football culture, schedule adjustments, and claims of hosting rights bribery as well as wider FIFA corruption.

With 48 teams expected to compete in the 2026 tournament, this one will be the last with 32 teams. The tournament was conducted in November and December to escape the scorching temperature of Qatar.  It took place during a condensed 29-day period, with 64 matches being contested at eight locations spread across five cities of Qatar.

FIFA 2022 Winner

Argentina won the championship, defeating France, the previous champions, 4-2 on penalties after a 3-3 tie in overtime. Their third World Cup triumph and first since 1986 was celebrated by this. Additionally, it was the first time a South American side won the World Cup after winning the Copa América. The French player Kylian Mbappé earned the Golden Boot for scoring the most goals (eight) during the tournament. He also became the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final since Geoff Hurst in 1966 final. Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina, was selected as the competition’s top player and awarded the Golden Ball. Also from Argentina, Emiliano Martnez took home the Golden Glove, which is given to the competition’s top goalie. Although Argentina won the FIFA 2022 World Cup title, France gave a tough fight to Argentina.

On December 17, a game was held for third place. Achraf Dari quickly equalised Joko Gvardiol’s goal for Croatia two minutes later. Croatia won the game 2-1 thanks to a goal by Mislav Ori. Morocco finished fourth, setting a team record and having the best World Cup performance of any African or Arab country.
